This year, security leader, Fortinet, is teaming up with Carnegie Mellon University’s CyLab Security and Privacy Institute and picoCTF to bring the annual cybersecurity Capture-The-Flag competition to the collegiate level.
The free competition offers students an opportunity to hone their cybersecurity skills and show off their cyber talent. By registering for a free account, students will also gain access to picoCTF’s learning platform, which offers a plethora of educational resources and practice problems to help prepare them for the event.
"Cybersecurity competitions, like Carnegie Mellon University’s picoCTF, are important programs to develop the cybersecurity workforce of the future,” says Vice President of the Fortinet Training Institute, Rob Rahotte. “Through the Fortinet Training Institute’s Academic Partner program, Fortinet is pleased to sponsor this year’s competition and, for the first time, award prizes to the top finishers from colleges and universities around the world."
The top three finishers in both the individual and team categories will earn cash prizes, Fortinet swag, and bragging rights.
Individual:
1st place - $2.5K USD
2nd place - $1.5K USD
3rd place - $1K USD
Team:
1st place - $5K USD
2nd place - $3K USD
3rd place - $2K USD
To be eligible for these prizes, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree-granting college or university.
The 2023 picoCTF hacking competition will run from March 14 through March 28, 2023. Registration is now open, and students can sign up to compete through the event’s final day. There is no fee to participate and no limit to the number of teams that can represent a single school.
