Hong Shen is an assistant research professor in the Human Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). She received her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Her research focuses on the social and policy dimensions of digital platforms and algorithmic systems, with a strong emphasis on bias, fairness, social justice and power relations in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Her work has been funded through grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Amazon, Cisco, Block Center for Technology and Society, and more. She is the recipient of a Google Policy Fellowship.
