Biometrics Identification on Robots and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)

Abstract

Scope: We have been working on designing mobile platforms to carry out biometrics-oriented tasks. The modifications made to our aerial drones show a distinct edge in providing true autonomy to our system. The drones use a single frontal camera for face detection to capture a target of interest, then using facial pose and distance measurements, are able to follow the target. By imparting swarm intelligence to the system, multiple targets of interest can be searched for and tracked with this system. Cheap, communicative, and independent of human supervision, this system is already what most modern UAV platforms strive to become.

Outcomes: Intelligent drones with a robust automatic face tracking and recognition system.
