Security Quality Requirements Engineering (SQUARE) Project

Researchers: Nancy Mead, Lorrie Cranor

Cross Cutting Thrusts: Formal Methods | Software Security

Abstract

Scope:  The SQUARE is identifying and assessing processes and techniques to improve security requirements identification, analysis, specification, and management. The project is also focusing on management issues associated with the development of good security requirements. Recently, a start has been made on extending the SQUARE models to address acquisition and privacy.

Outcomes:  Enable development of systems that are more secure, private, and survivable by successfully using requirements engineering methods. Hopefully, this focus on security and privacy requirements will result in more predictable development activities and processes, as well as systems with costs and schedules that are more predictable.
